Kick off the New (secular) Year with some Jewish learning at Congregation Beth Sholom-Chevra Shas.  Please register for the class of your choice by contacting 446-9570 or There is a minimum registration for each class to run. The classes are free to CBS-CS members, with a $50 fee for non-members. Prayerbook Hebrew I will have a book fee as well.

 Trope Workshop

Learn to chant the Megillot of Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, and the Book of Ruth with Cantor Pepperstone.  There will be eight classes on Sunday evenings (beginning January 22) at 7 pm leading up to Pesach so that students can participate in the reading of the Song of Songs on Shabbat Chol Ha Mo’ed Pesach (April 15).

 Haftarah Trope Class

Learn to chant Haftarah with Hanita Blair. This class will meet Sunday mornings at 9:45 am beginning January 8 and running until March 26.

 Prayerbook Hebrew I

Jessie Kerr-Whitt will be teaching Prayerbook Hebrew I which will be offered again on Monday evenings at 7 pm beginning January 9. It covers basic letters and sounds, core vocabulary from the Siddur and practice reading. The office is ordering books for this class.

 Prayerbook Hebrew III

Sarah Saulson will be teaching this class. Join us as we continue our study of Prayerbook Hebrew.  Hebrew III will meet for 8 sessions on Monday evenings from 7—8 pm beginning on January 9 and concluding in late March.  This class is a continuation of Hebrew II, and we will continue skill-building in Siddur Hebrew reading proficiency, comprehension, vocabulary and grammar. If you’d like to improve your Prayerbook Hebrew profiency and you have some basics, or if your Hebrew is rusty and you’d like some practice, please join us.
